Review of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / ME Service
22nd April 2023

This so called service rejected referral on account of a 'psychiatric' label. According to this so called service if someone has mental health problems they can't possibly have physical health issues. Or perhaps this service considers mental health patients not worthy of help for their physical health, leaving them to struggle. No advice, no alternative treatment suggestion, just a slammed door of 'no help for you as you have a psychiatric label. Ignorant, biased, discriminatory service. Discriminatory exclusion is considered unprofessional in most places, it is certainly not something I expect to be on the receiving end of within a health service. Shocked and appalled by this disgusting attitude

Suggested improvements
You coukd be more open minded, and actually not discriminate

I was glad to see all the work on the site taking place even on a public holiday. The new male toilet looks very impressive. I was seen and dealt with in good time allowing for the large numbers present.

I have been several times recently to have a wound dressed as i've have been waiting for a appointment at the planned treatment clinic. Every time i've been to the urgent treatment centre it has been very busy, the staff always apologized and were very pleasant.

Review of Urgent Treatment Centre (Crawley)
3rd May 2017

Went to walk in centre after having tripped on some steps, I did try my doctors first but had no appointments, on arrival I gave my details to reception, I was told the wait to see a triage nurse was 1hr 30 mins and 3 hrs to see a doctor, Crawley hospital is undergoing building works so a bit manic, but I was seen by a nurse within 45 mins, she was very nice, asked me some medical details and history and how I got my injury to my nose! On this occasion she was able to clean my small cut on my nose, put some strips on my to help it heel properly, took my blood pressure and temperature. I was very impressed, very professional and explained exactly what she was going to do and with my aftercare. All the staff were very busy helping patients, and when an emergency came in via an ambulance, the nurse came out and apologised for the long wait as this was due to an emergency coming in, so was kept informed at all times, some patients did not wait due to the time they had to wait to see a doctor! Staff did what they could to help. Great service!

Review of Urgent Treatment Centre (Crawley) written by a family member
2nd May 2017

My 2-year old grandson had what appeared to be some sort of bite or burn on his wrist, which looked very red and inflamed. He lives in France and he, his mother and his baby brother were staying with my husband and I at the time. My registered GP practice was unable to help, and instructed us to go to the Urgent Care Centre at Crawley Hospital. We did so on the morning of Tues 25.04.17. My husband waited in our car with my daughter’s 6-month old baby. I accompanied my daughter and grandson into the UCC, where they were checked in at Reception and saw the triage nurse almost straightaway which gave us some optimism. The nurse looked briefly at the wound and immediately said my grandson would need to be seen by the doctor and she took us to a room she referred to as the "children's waiting room" and told us to wait. Our experience in this room was awful. It was completely separate and isolated from other areas of the centre. If you left the room, you couldn't get back in unless you managed to find a member of staff to let you in again. There were two children waiting with their parents to be seen before us, and they told us they had already been waiting a very long time. There was nothing in the room except some chairs around the edge of the room: there were no toys, nothing for a child to do except play on the floor (which was quite dirty), no toilets, no changing facilities, no drinks machine of any kind (not even water). Worse still, there were no staff at all. No information was given to us during the two and a half hours we waited there, no member of staff came into the room at all except to call one child in to see the duty doctor. It was a depressing place to wait for hours, particularly with young children. Eventually one of the parents left the room, found a member of staff and came back to say that she had been told an emergency had come in and that the only doctor on duty had been called to attend it, so the wait for the children to be seen could still be several hours. At this point we had had enough: we (along with the other parents and children in the room) had been waiting an unacceptably long time with no access to facilities, refreshment or children’s activities, and no information. All the children in the room were thoroughly fed up and tired, and they were behaving accordingly. Moreover, my daughter needed to feed and change her baby and this dirty and fractious environment was totally inappropriate. My daughter was by this time dreadfully upset and we left. We felt that the “children’s waiting area” in the Crawley UCC, and the unacceptably long time for a small child to be seen, were an absolute disgrace: it fell very short of what one should reasonably expect of Crawley Hospital UCC. [We successfully sought treatment at the UCC East Surrey Hospital later that day.]

It’s a good 24 hour service; my time at the centre was 3 hours which included assessment, 2 X-rays and consultation. I think that was good as the waiting rooms were almost full when I arrived.

Review of Urgent Treatment Centre (Crawley) - Children
29th April 2017

Unfortunately it was very busy and took 45 minutes to get seen. it was then very quick for her to get her xrays but another 2 hours to get the results. We saw the doctor for less than 5 minutes. There was no where to elevate her foot and we were not offered ice for her severe strain and the swelling therefore got worse during our 3.5 hour wait. We were glad to get home.Staff were very friendly and polite to us.
